Män som hatar kvinnor which means "Men Who Hate Women" is the Swedish title of the upcoming American film based on the novel with the same title, "The Girl with the Dragon tattoo."
I liked the film, made in 2009, and I hope the American film gives justice to it. But I bet it would have a lot of cut scenes compared to the Swedish film. The Swedish film really showed gruesome scenes which I think were needed in the story.
I plan on watching the Millennium Trilogy – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish title: Män som hatar kvinnor, "Men Who Hate Women"), The Girl Who Played with Fire (Swedish title: Flickan som lekte med elden, "The Girl Who Played with Fire") and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (Swedish title: Luftslottet som sprängdes, "The Air Castle that Blew Up") all from the same author Stieg Larsson. << from wikipedia
Watch it for yourself.

International Food Fest
So here we were, one day, when my friend came to visit me at elbi and my sis was itching for an international meal. So I decided to cook an international menu made up of indian chicken and veggie curry in mexican tortilla, cheesy spanish jalapenos, italian beef red pasta, vietnamese fresh spring rolls with atchara sauce and pinoy juice and buko salad.
I only have pics of the two (main) meals: the spring rolls and the tortillas.
Ingredients for the rolls:
vietnamese rice paper (bought in Vietnam but i think there's some in malls)
toge
bihon
fresh basil leaves
crab flakes (or sticks or fresh fish/ chicken or whatever meat you would like)
for the sauce, you can make your own peanut sauce or just use the achara sauce. it worked for us
just roll everything in the rice paper and you're done! simple, fresh and healthy!!!
INgredients for the chicken-veggie curry in tortillas:
chicken giniling
curry powder (bought in Singapore but you can use any kind)
chili flakes (for added spicyness)
garlic
onions
tomatoes
and basically any kind of veggies you want; i used potatos, sayote, carrots, bell peppers
quick melt cheese
Cut all veggies in cubes. Make curry paste by adding powder with water. Cook the garlic and onions first then add the potatoes, sayote and carrots until soft. add chicken giniling until cook. add curry paste. Combine the remaining ingredients and add salt and chile flakes to taste. Roll chicken curry in tortilla, grate cheese on top, close the tortilla and heat in oven toaster. Eat up!
Our cheesy jalapenos is easy to do: just cut cheese into sticks, cut chili peppers into halves and take out seeds (or leave a few for more spicyness), put cheese inside chilis then cover with lumpia wrapper. Fry and get ready for a spicy appetizer!
<< this is how it will look like
So I tried to make our menu sound really international-y (what in the world is cheesy spanish jalapenos??) but hey, try it yourself. better yet, invent your own set of menu!

2011 Los Banos Most Outstanding Women awards night
Taga Los Banos just dancing the night away |
My mom was nominated and eventually won one of the awards during the first awarding for Most OUtstanding Woman in Los Banos. There were other winners for other categories.
This was part of the mayor's project for women's month and served as the culminating activity.
The mayor |
We were surprised when the mayor sat at our table. Just a few observations:
1) he's short pala
2) looks just like how he looks on the billboards around town
3) he was late for the awards night
4) made us wait before the awards proper started
5) he's very politic-iy (if there's such a term)
BUt then, i have to be thankful for my mom's cash prize and the free last anti-rabies shot (which i experienced last year when i got bitten by a dog). I just hope he doesn't turn elbi into a casino city.
Gotta say the awards night seemed like a meeting de avance. hehe.
On other news, i commend and look up to the people in los banos. they love to dance, dress up and just be which got me thinking.. that's them. it may seem jologs or baduy to some but that's fashion.. it's anything and everything! if there's such a thing as "live and let live" then there should also be one that says "fashion and let fashion."
Kung ano trip ko, trip ko yun.
Just look at these women.. they don't care about what other people think. they're just enjoying. and that's what i like about them.
Galing talaga.
Since the theme was hawaiian, of course, there was a special dance number with the song "pearly shells." hehe. nice one..
